We headed down to the Children's Museum last Saturday- Gram and Papa joined us! Santa was very generous and upgraded our membership so we can bring 2 guests with us. Fun! We headed to Egypt first. On the way down to the museum Aiden told me that a lady was going to give him something special when we were at the museum. Um, whatever you say Aiden. I was totally freaked out when this nice employee/lady wanted to "order" something at the cafe in Egypt from Aiden. After he served her she paid with a special gold coin that he got to keep! I think I need to ask him about lottery numbers in the very near future!

We also checked out the new Mr. Potato Head exhibit. It was super crowded so we'll have to check it out again soon.

After the museum Aiden and I went to lunch and he got his first bubble tea. I got it for us to share. The sharing part didn't go so well! Who can blame him?

Sunday we laid low around the house. Of course that meant lots of super hero dress up! It also included a deep clean of the house. It was so needed and it felt good to get it done.

Monday was a gorgeous, sunny day! After a trip to Target we headed to the park. As Aiden said, "the one with lots of climbing and big slides." He can't make it up to the 3rd level of the structure but loves going to the second level and sliding down. We also made it to the swings and to play some hopscotch. It was a great long weekend. I think I need more of those!!

It's taken 3+ years for this to happen....for our grumpy cat Tess to actually get near Aiden. Tess never really recovered from that trip to Vietnam. Neither did my friend Dana who was kept hostage by Tess upstairs when she went upstairs to feed her. Thankfully I had two cat sitters for that trip. I know she doesn't look all that thrilled but the fact that she doesn't run upstairs or downstairs when Aiden enters the room.

Okay, Aiden didn't have much interest in petting her up until about 6 months ago. Terrorize? Yes, but not pet. Poor guy's feelings were so hurt whenever he asked to pet Tess. But times have changed and he gets to pet her everyday now! I knew they'd appreciate each other someday.

I never intend to go this long between blog posts but life is just busy. I also don't mean to miss days taking pictures but it happens. We're dealing with some behavior...challenges and frankly, it's wearing me out. Last weekend was rough but it's gotten better the last two days. Hopefully we are on an upswing.

Last Friday we went to our 3rd Sweetheart party at Gymb0ree. You can see last year's party here and the 2010 party here (was Aiden really that little?!?). Dr. Love was in the house....

Every year Aiden loves delivering the Valentines. He spent a lot of time stuffing envelopes and putting them in the "mailbox".

Aiden still goes to sports class but we don't do bubbles there. He was in bubble heaven!

Another fun Gymb0ree party...and probably one of our last...sometimes this whole growing up thing is so sad for mommy!

37|366 Tet Celebration

I had the day off on Monday (a flex day we get if we don't have snow days) so I went to school with Aiden and we had a little Tet celebration. Aiden was very excited to show off his ao dai....I didn't check it ahead of time and a few of the buttons had fallen off. He didn't care! We read two books- Ten Mice for Tet and a book about the Dragon Dance, watched a lion dance video, shared toys from Vietnam and had choco pies and moon cakes for snack. I hadn't planned on the moon cakes but when we went to the Asian market to get red envelopes to pass out, Aiden saw them and insisted on buying them. I cut up very small pieces and most of the kids at least tried them!

We also made dragon masks that I found here. Thanks Christine! The kids loved coloring them and adding jewels. We had a great celebration and I was happy to be able to share Aiden's heritage with his class!

We got home LATE on Tuesday night. The first few days were a bit rough- we both needed to catch up on our sleep.

It helped coming home to 50 and 60 degree weather! We got outside as much as possible to enjoy it. Aiden even did his first bike ride to the park in our neighborhood. It's about a 15 minute walk/ride one way...I ended up carrying him and the bike the last 5 minutes on the way home!

It was a warm but windy day on Monday. It didn't stop us from having fun at the beach!

We headed back down to the beach for some pictures around sunset. I had an outfit picked out for Aiden. He had other ideas, so he is wearing the exact same outfit as last year! Aiden told me I could take four pictures. I took four....plus another 80 or so :).

And finally, my favorite of the night. The lighting, colors, etc. may not be great but it's just so...so Aiden.

Day 3: Eating out at Pinchers (my favorite crab cakes!) followed by ice cream at the Royal Scoop. So yummy and Aiden's cone was almost as big as we was! He ate a lot of that ice cream- I was impressed.

I skipped Day 4 because I have a lot of pictures to share. So on to day 5- our last day. Boo! It was a beautiful day that was cut short by leaving for the airport. We talked about going to Disney during this time instead of the beach. We were all walking on the beach and I looked at my mom and asked her how we give this up for Disney? We proceeded to discuss other times of year we could go to Disney :). We just love this place so much and it's so relaxing. Aiden loves the beach and so do I. We are already looking forward to next year....

Aiden got very creative with his sand creations this year. All of those circles with shells sticking up are couches for crabs. The shells were to help keep the sun out of their eyes! He wasn't too sure about the shells that still had little creatures inside as you can see in one of the pictures. We threw them back in the ocean!

Aiden loved playing in the ocean. There was no fear! He and Papa had fun in the waves on Saturday!

Blueberries pool side. The sun hadn't come out and it was a little chilly considering it was 9:30 in the morning!

I didn't take many pictures on our first day. When we went down the the beach, Aiden found a friend. He and Joey played and played. And I enjoyed talking to Joey's mom while the boys played. The sun even came out for a couple of hours but then it got overcast and windy. That didn't stop Aiden from going into the ocean!

I was greeted at the airport on Thursday night with lots of hugs and kisses! I got teary just thinking about our reunion on the plane ride down...it was a rough flight so thoughts of my happy boy kept my mind off of the crazy turbulence we encountered!

I did do a little playing too- got to see Girl with a Dragon Tattoo and have dinner with friends. It was nice to have a little me time but I was missing Aiden something fierce!

On Sunday, Aiden and my parents left for Florida. I held in the tears until he walked away. Because I am behind about 4 days I can finally say I am joining them tomorrow night! It's been nice to have a little time to myself but I miss Aiden like crazy. I really wonder what I used to do with all this free time in the evenings! I wouldn't change my life now for the world.

~20~ Pho! We celebrated Tet a little early since Aiden was leaving for Florida with my parents on Sunday. He loves his pho and loves his ipho tshirt even more. He couldn't wait to show Ha and Sang at the restaurant. He greeted Ha with a great big hug on Friday.

We have quickly gone from Rescue Heroe$ to the DC Super Heroe$. Aiden got one of the super heroes as a late Christmas gift and it came with a video. He's all about Flash and Green Lantern. So now the fire boots and gloves transform Aiden into Flash.

I sort of missed 5 days of taking pictures. But don't worry, Aiden has taken about 300 photos since with his new camera since Christmas so I thought I would share a few of his pics. The camera doesn't take great pictures but I am glad I got the kid's camera after I saw him drop it at least 4 times on Christmas day!

I posted on facebook that we've had to establish some rules about picture taking: Aiden got a camera for Christmas wish has led to a new rule in our house: No pictures of Mommy in the shower. This rule was later changed to no pictures of Mommy in the bathroom- ever. At least I have all of the editing and deleting powers...for now!

I wish I could say all of this paperwork was for a dossier or something. But it's not. It was definitely a paper chase of sorts...for the IR$. Yes, I was audited. It was a lot of work getting everything together. But it went well. How could it not when I handed over a copy of Aiden's COC with that adorable picture on it?!? I would have brought a whole photo album if necessary!

For my birthday earlier this week we went to a local Japanese steakhouse. I knew Aiden would love it- he thought it was great. The food was good and there was lots of it!

I happen to share my birthday with a pretty cool 5 year old...Chloe! Actually I share my birthday with two cool 5 year olds- Happy Birthday to Hailey too! We went to Chloe's party yesterday. It was a great party and all sorts of animals visited. Aiden didn't pet many but keeps talking about them!

One of the animals was some African cockroach of some sort. And this series of photos is why I think Angel wins the Mother of the Year award for 2012. Seriously. I'm not sure I could do this. I know I couldn't do this. Ah for the love of a child. And Angel, I'll take these down if you want but I thought everyone would love to see what a cool mom you are. Plus I love Chloe in these pictures! I am sure she was in awe!

I am still taking a picture a day. I'm trying to figure out how I want to add them on the blog...I'm thinking one or two collages for the week and then I will have separate posts when I want to share more than one picture for the day. I don't know....that plan could change as time goes on!

{365/365} Last Day!

So far we have had a great last day of 2011. Devon babysat while the adults got to go to a movie. Then we met Libby and her mommy at the mall (I forgot to ask if I could use a picture on the blog...thus the beautiful Libby in the background of this picture!). Aiden is so overtired but managed to have a great time- we even got to ride the mall train (because saying no wasn't worth the meltdown at this point).

After the mall we got some pictures taken and then headed out for pizza. We came home, ate cake and are now relaxing in front of the television.

I can't believe another year has come to an end. I have really enjoyed having a so many pictures of Aiden the past two years. I missed several days this year but did my best. Not sure what 2012 will bring for this little blog. I guess my tens of readers (okay, I think I have 20-30 on a good day!) will have to stay tuned. Hope you all have a wonderful New Year!

This medal was for hockey. Miss Megan always gives a nice little speech about each child as she hands out the medal. Aiden scored a goal this week and she thanked him for his listening ears and for helping his friends. That's my sweet boy! The next sport is track and field.

I realized as I was typing this that we started going to gymb0ree 3 years ago this week.I have brought up stopping gymb0ree a few times with Aiden....it never goes over well. He insists he wants to stay at gymb0ree forever. He truly loves it and how do I say no to that? Not to mention that the teachers are all amazing. He still loves Miss Melissa (his teacher for 2 years) and he also will talk about Miss Megan, Miss Wendy (sitting next to Aiden below) and Miss Eileen. He loves them all and is so comfortable with them. They are pretty amazing teachers and I am thankful to have them be a part of our lives for the past 3 years!

{361/365} Snow!

Yesterday morning we got our first snow that actually stuck. The flakes coming down when we first got outside were HUGE (you can see one on Aiden's glove)!

We didn't get more than an inch and a half but it came down fast. It was also very wet which made for great snowballs and snowmen! Glad I was on break so we could play outside when the snow finally came!

Santa delivered! Aiden was thrilled to get his very own jackhammer! He also got a new rescue her0 which, like I said in an earlier post, is the newest craze!

After a lazy morning we prepared for a late Christmas lunch. Chef Aiden wanted to help!

Kelly, Collin and Chloe came over and they brought Aiden another Rescue Her0. He was thrilled!

Kelly and I figured we should have 15 of these pictures in front of the tree. Collin was 4 when they started coming over- crazy how time flies!

We headed home around 5:30. Aiden fell asleep in the car after no nap but woke up as soon as I brought him inside. He wanted to know if Santa came...and he did!

Christmas Eve started with one last trip to visit Santa. "I want to make sure he knows I want a jack hammer". Why not? Turns out the mall was not crowded at all- we got a front row parking spot and walked right up to Santa.

After church we headed to my parents' house for our annual pizza party. There were fun and games to be had by all!

Aiden didn't get the memo that only the last shot was a "silly" one!

We hung our stockings with care and then Aiden melted down so no pictures of the Twas the Night Before Christmas reading- he cried through the whole thing. He wanted to go sleep at home. Poor guy. It was after 11 and he was tired...but once he calmed and it was just the two of us laying in bed he got very excited, anticipating the arrival of Santa!

We made several goodies this year (a first for me!). I thought it would be fun for Aiden. It was. Until he lost interest and told me, "I'm too busy to help anymore." Yeah, he looks super busy.

The local farm equipment store (there's still corn in Indiana afterall) has a HUGE light display every year. We drove through it on Wednesday.

Aiden's favorites were the train and the giraffes boarding Noah's Ark.

Today we went down to the children's museum. It was super busy but we managed to get right in line for the yuletide slide. We spent 4 hours there- Aiden wanted to do it all! He melted on the way out but fell asleep pretty quickly. Still working on not getting so upset when it's time to go. It's not going so well- I'm open to suggestions!

Aiden is still big into writing. I think he found every place that had some sort of coloring/writing involved and spent lots of time there. He also could have spent hours "digging" for the terra cotta warriors!

On Saturday we had our annual "Kid's Christmas" celebration. We started at Monkey Joe's- a great place to burn off some energy and have some fun!

We came home for pizza, presents and gingerbread house decorating. Some did more licking than decorating!

On Sunday we went to Christmas at the zoo. Aiden wasn't in the mood for pictures. He honestly wasn't in the mood for much. I thought Joe the elf was going to leave a note telling Aiden he was on the naughty list. Being 3 can be rough sometimes...

On Thursday I was able to go to Aiden's school party. The class did a little performance and sang 3 songs. We then decorated cookies and opened presents the kids made for us- a cute windchime ornament. It's fun to get a little glimpse into Aiden's school world. A got there a little early and he was so proud to walk down the hall in line, holding my hand. I know it won't always be that way so I cherish those times now!

This time at my school. Our child development classes put on a party every year. There was a kid friendly dinner and lots of crafts. Aiden made ornaments (on which he was writing our phone number- I had no idea he knew how to write it- this boy keeps me on my toes!), made reindeer food and decorated a cookie.

He waited patiently for Santa but made sure he got a spot right by the presents!

This summer (it was the 2nd week of July, right after we got home from Culture Camp), I decided it was time for Aiden to wear underwear. It was Thursday, July 14th. And wear them he did. There was one accident on Saturday which was my fault for pushing us on being away from a potty too long. I think there was 1 other potty accidents and that was it. Just like that, Aiden was potty trained. I don't think I even documented it on the blog because there wasn't even a time where he was training. He put on the underwear and there was no looking back.

So I shouldn't have been surprised when Aiden decided he was ready to give up his pacifier. I actually suggested it but I didn't think he'd take me up on it. We were at T@rget buying gifts for our two boys from the giving tree at church. Aiden was doing a great job understanding that some boys and girls don't get presents because their mommies and daddies needed help buying gifts. We thoughtfully picked out toys for the boys. I thought we were leaving the toy section without any whining or asking for a toy...until Aiden saw a Rescue Hero fire truck. He REALLY wanted it. I told him when he gave up his pacifier and didn't use it for a week we would come back and get the fire truck. He cried. And cried. He wanted that truck.

We got to the car. Aiden had calmed down and said, "Mommy, let's talk about this." I told him again he could have the truck when he didn't use his paci for a week. "But I want it now." And honestly? Knowing my sweet boy and how strong willed he was, I knew it wasn't going to work to say no paci for a week. He needed the reinforcement in hand in order to give up his beloved paci.

Aiden recently stopped using his paci for naps at school. I told him that if we bought the truck he would give up his paci forever. He said he understood. I told him that if he paid for the truck with his paci that the other pacifiers at home would be gone too. "I know mommy. I want to stop using my paci." So after 20 minutes of me essentially trying to talk him out of this decision we went back into the store. Aiden proudly carried the fire truck to the front of the store. I picked a checkout lady who looked like she was "paying with a paci friendly". And she was. Aiden told everyone who would listen he was buying a truck with his paci because he was a big boy now. Lots of people made a huge deal of it and Aiden was just beaming. And just like that, Aiden stopped using the paci.

Well...almost. We called Papa in the car to tell him. Aiden called him back 15 minutes later to tell him he "changed his mind." He did his sports class and when we got out to the car and he saw his truck he changed his mind again. Just like that. "I am done with my paci."

Aiden was spending the night at my parents that night (oops- sorry, Mom!) but he did fairly well and didn't ask for his paci. On the way back home he said, "Mom, let's talk about my paci." So we did- about how brave he was and what a big boy he was. Aiden agreed but said, "I miss my paci. I can't believe I gave it up forever!" When we got home, Joe the elf was hanging upside down in a tree holding this note:

And Aiden's resolve was strengthened. We had a celebratory cupcake left over from our Family Day celebration. It was a no more paci cupcake! Aiden suggested a party with Gram, Papa, Aunt Louise, Uncle Charlie, Brodie, Abel, Dana, Stephanie, Scotch (err Scott), Devon & her Mommy, and Chloe & her Mommy. He was fine with just the cupcake :)!

It took Aiden a long time to fall asleep. He woke up a few times whimpering but never asked for his paci. And just like that...two successful nights with no paci (he is currently 2 1/2 hours in to night 3).

I'm so proud of my boy. But I will admit it is a little bittersweet. There is no denying now that my baby (who will always be my baby) is growing up. Those pacifiers comforted him from the time he was 6 1/2 months old. They helped him stop waking every 30 minutes to eat when we were in Vietnam. Those pacifiers were the last part of Aiden's baby/toddler days. It's definitely a rite of passage.

It's obvious the pacifiers gave Aiden comfort and security. He's been very clingy in the evenings and we have enjoyed extra cuddle time on the couch. He's been super affectionate and really needing me when he's tired, upset or sad. That has helped make this milestone a positive one for both of us. Just like that...my baby if officially a little boy.

Aiden loves writing and drawing. He could spend hours each night writing "letters" (which usually start, "Dear God"...I really need to catch this on video), writing words and drawing pictures. Here is his masterpiece on Tuesday.

Seems there was some confusion on my part about the name of our elf. I didn't write it down in our book and remembered it was the guy from Blue's Clues. As you may recall, Steve went to college on that show and his cousin Joe moved in with Blue. In looking at my blog it seems Joe was really Steve last year. Oops! Joe, Steve...Aiden doesn't remember and the elf doesn't seem to care. I was just happy to see that on Sunday morning he was finally earning his keep!

It seems last night that Joe did a little painting. Aiden told him he did a "very good job".

On Saturday evening we headed to the Polar Express. Aiden fell asleep in the car and wasn't too sure about putting on his pajamas at first. Once we boarded the train he was ready! Joe the elf even brought Aiden some new slippers to wear on the train.

Once the train started heading to the North Pole the chef and an elf came around with cookies and hot chocolate.

The conductor punched the tickets, the Polar Express story was read and we arrived at the North Pole. Santa came out of his house and boarded the train. We were at the front of the train so Santa didn't make it to our car until close to the end of the trip but Aiden did a good job waiting.

Finally, Santa!

Aiden told Santa he wanted a jackhammer. At least he's consistent with what he wants!

And of course Aiden received the first gift of Christmas. I was kind of glad that Santa didn't come to our car until last with all of those bells going crazy, especially Aiden's! It was the perfect Family Day celebration!

Nuoc Mam and Turkey- Thanksgiving doesn't get any better than that!

There was also time for "hunting" dress up in the man cave- yes, Aiden and my dad have a man cave. No girls allowed!

On Friday we headed downtown for a big party and the lighting of the "tree" in the center of the city. It's really a monument with lights strung down in the shape of a tree. Still fun to see! The party we went to had a nice dinner buffet and crafts for the kids.

Santa and Mrs. Claus were there too!

We were right on the circle and could have seen from the windows but it was 60 degrees outside so we headed down to see the big lighting. Aiden and Brody busted some moves waiting.

And finally, the lighting! It's the best shot I got with Aiden on my shoulders! We are so blessed to have friends that we get to do fun things with (and that invite us to fancy parties)!

I've really let the blog go this week. Didn't take a single picture until today. It was a short week, I was busy with some Thanksgiving preparations and I was reading a really good book. Really good- I couldn't put it down. Room. Check it out if you haven't read it!

Today I have been reflecting on how much I have to be thankful for.

We had pictures taken in late October. These are just a few. I am lucky and blessed to have such an wonderful family.

A little Friday evening writing practice. Aiden is into writing lots and lots of words. He's always asking me to spell something. Usually the letters are all over the paper- this is the best I've seen!

On Saturday we went to the Children's museum with Duc and Erica! I told Aiden they were coming on Thursday night and it's all he could talk about. The boys did great together. We came back to our house after the museum and the played so nicely. Aiden's already asking when we'll see them again.

Today after church we made some pumpkin bars. They actually turned out more like a cake because I used applesauce instead of oil. Anyway, we don't bake much but Aiden always loves to crack eggs. Today he perfected cracking an egg without crushing it in his hands and putting the whole thing (shell too!) into the bowl. He's getting to be such a big boy. Hard to believe he was 3 1/2 a few days ago...

On Thursday we met Aiden's BFF Brody for a community drum circle at Bongo Boy. It was an eclectic group of people and it was LOUD but we had a good time. What boy doesn't like beating on a drum and playing all sorts of rhythm instruments? I must admit it was a great stress reliever for me! I think next time we'll try the kid's drum circle that they have.

Aiden's newest game is to ask me to cry. He then brings me some flowers to cheer me up. Such a sweet boy!

Aiden has also gotten pretty good at playing games on the laptop. We've been playing a game or two a few times a week and he quickly mastered the mouse very quickly. Probably time to look into a leap*frog game of some sort!

Play doh gone wrong...who me?

The good news is Aiden cleaned everything up. He even swept the floor all by himself...right down to sweeping everything into the dust pan and putting it in the trash. I can't complain! Such a good helper!

On Saturday our mall welcomed Santa with a big Holiday Festival. Seems a little early to me but Aiden loved it. There were lots of performers strolling about and some activities for the kids. It wasn't super cold so we even played on the playground until the big man in red made his appearance.

Aiden was SO excited when he saw Santa appear on the roof of one of the stores. He kept yelling, "I've got to talk to that man. I've got to talk to Santa!" I pushed my way to the front of the crowd to get near Santa. Of course Aiden froze when it was his turn. Guess it was a good practice run for the real deal sometime next month!

Time seems to be flying by. I just can't keep up with posting. Well, I could, I just don't seem to make the time. I had this grand plan of posting one picture every day in November. Yeah, that went well. Eh. At least I managed to take a picture every day.

{307} Just a little dress up on a Thursday night. Thanks Jammer (and Michele) for the costume- Aiden loves it and it's big enough for him to wear for years!

{308} We went to my high school's sectional football game- we won! However, Aiden and I didn't even make it to half time. He was a tired boy. We had company coming and Aiden was SO excited to see Heather and Devon but just couldn't stay awake. He fell asleep early- it was a long week!

{309} Heather and Devon were here for a band competition. My Godsons were marching and did well- they made it to finals!

Aiden watched the Castle Marching Knights and promptly passed out...for two hours. Did I mention he was exhausted from the week?

An added bonus (especially since Heather and I are Purdue Alums)- the Purdue Marching Band performed. Aiden wasn't impressed with my singing of the fight song. Whatev. It was fun. Hail Purdue!

Finally, the big day arrived! Aiden was gung ho to trick or treat but spent most of the evening on Papa's shoulders. He called him his "chocolate truck". Ha! Aiden got stopped a lot in his costume these past few days. People commented on how cute he was, how adorable the costume was, etc.. We were in the car and Aiden said to me, "Mama, I am the most adorable giraffe in the whole wide world." Gee, don't let it go to your head, little man. Thing is, I kind of have to agree!

On Saturday we headed down to the Children's Museum to go through the haunted house. We pulled out last year's costume to change things up! We went during the lights on hours and Aiden loved looking at everything and getting goodies.

Afterwards, we hung out at the museum. We visited the new frog exhibit and Aiden rode his first animal on the carousel at the museum! No more bench for us! I am so glad we went as soon as it opened. We always do but it was crazy when we left around 1. The wait for the haunted house was over an hour. Yikes!

Today we headed to our church's trunk or treat. There was a huge tractor there that Aiden got to climb up in and the firemen were passing out candy. Two wonderful things in Aiden's eyes. He got so.much.candy. Not sure why we are trick or treating tomorrow! He'll have enough to last him well past Christmas!

We kicked off the Halloween weekend literally....at Aiden's soccer practice. My parents usually take him on Friday mornings but I got to go because it was my one day off for fall break. It was great seeing him in action. The pictures aren't great- the best I could do through a grimy plexiglass wall. Afterwards we went to our favorite Vietnamese restaurant. I'm pretty sure Aiden ate his weight in spring rolls and pho.

After nap, Aiden finally put his costume on. He was so excited and kept saying, "it's finally time for Halloween!" Eating some leaves to get some energy for the Gymb0ree party...

We started this busy week off with a bang- got up bright and early to have family pictures taken. Aiden gave Lauren a few of his goofy smiles. Okay, more than a few. But there were plenty of great smiles too. Although I can't say what he looked like when all four of us were in the shot. I'll guess we'll see! I'll be sure to share.

After pictures we ran several errands (Aiden loves to shop and was a trooper) and then went to a birthday party. The party was at a park and it was a gorgeous day. Aiden ran around in his picture clothes and had a blast. He fell asleep after being in the car about 2 minutes. I was worn out too!

Monday was a nice day. I do remediation after school on Mondays but we ran home and got in some outside time. I sure hope Aiden opened his eyes in some of our family pictures. This is usually what I get when I ask him to smile....

Tuesday was even nicer then Monday. We ran home to change clothes and then headed to the park. Aiden was anxious to go and was waiting at the door to the garage as I came downstairs. He opened the door into the garage and I shut it, not giving it a second thought. We had a great time at the park. Played on the playground and walked/rode the scooter around the park. We stayed for over an hour. It was 6:30 when we left. I knew I was pushing it with a late dinner but it was *so* nice and I knew it was probably one of the few remaining nice days we would have before winter.

You know where this is going right? We got home, I went to go inside....and the door that Aiden opened before we left? It was locked. And I had no key. And the neighbor I thought had a key didn't because we only talked about trading keys, never did it. Oops. I was so mad at myself. Aiden was panicked. He ran out of the garage screaming, "Help! Help! We've got a big problem. Someone bring us a key!" Yeah, a bit of an alarmist! Luckily my parents had a key and my dad brought it over. Aiden got to play with the neighbor kids while we waited so all was well. I will no make sure a house key is in my car and with at least 2 neighbors! Made a long day even longer. At least it was a good day overall.

Sunday was a nice sunny day. Perfect day for a wagon ride!

Monday was haircut day. Aiden loves for her to spike it when she's done cutting it. It's the last day I picked up the camera all week. I even missed 3 days with the crappy cell phone pictures. I got sick. Was sent home from school on Tuesday with a 102 temperature. The doctor diagnosed bronchitis and a touch of the flu. Thankfully my wonderful parents kept Aiden that night. I slept for 13 hours. I was able to go back to work on Thursday and was feeling 100% by today.

Yesterday we ran up to the mall to look for shoes for our family pictures that are tomorrow. If Aiden got to choose his shoes for family pictures, he would have chosen something sparkly. And pink. He was really hoping he could get these shoes. He even tried to tell me his friends want him to have them. And I quote, "Caroline and Leah would love for me to have these!" He also tried on black boots (girls), gray mary janes and red sparkle shoes. Honestly? If they weren't $15 I would have bought them for him. He was so sad when the boots Delaney gave him got too small. We are now looking for some hand me down sparkly shoes. Aiden is in toddlers 7.5 or 8 right now if you know of anyone that might have some old ones!

Today was our church's first ever day of service. I helped deliver meals to local fire stations and then helped with childcare the rest of the afternoon. I got to meet several very nice people from church and also got to cuddle with some babies! We (one other adult and me) had help from 2 high school girls and there were only 6 kids. It was nice out so I took a few outside on the playground. I told someone in charge that next year Aiden and I will help with all of the meal deliveries. He will love it!

{288/365} Pumpkin Patch

Yesterday we went to the pumpkin patch. It was our 3rd annual trip. The patch has gotten quite commercialized but Aiden loves it. This year we took Gram and Justin with us! There are lots of things to do- the pumpkin train, the jumping pillow, blow up stuff, farm animals, candle making, pumpkin sling shot, hay ride- we tried it all!

It was pretty chilly when we got there but it was a very nice day. I took lots of pictures and couldn't decide which to share. So I made collages!

Aiden loved all of the straw- the straw maze, the straw pile....he had plenty of straw to throw at me!

The pumpkins this year seemed really, really big. It was hard to find one I could actually carry to the car!

We finally found the perfect pumpkins and headed back home (after a stop at Tac0 Bell- one of Aiden's favorite restaurants!).

One of our fire stations in town had an open house for fire safety week. Aiden and I went and got our flu shots and the visit to the station was a surprise for after the shots. Aiden was so brave...until the needle went in. He lost it and struggled to regain composure. However, when we pulled into the fire station parking lot (luckily it was only a 10 minute drive) he stopped crying and said, "I can't let the firemen see my tears!"

One of the firemen took us on a tour of the station. Aiden thought the kitchen was pretty cool. He also told every fireman (and lady) that he got a flu shot! Of course Aiden loved getting in all 5 of the trucks/engines. He also loved dressing up and spraying the hose. Really, he loved it all and didn't want to leave! It was a fun way to forget about the shots!

We had a very busy Saturday here. Aiden and I started the day running (and I use that term loosely) the Stop The Traffic Virtual 5K yesterday. After a few stops and a playground break, we finished in about an hour! The actual race was in Minnesota but we were happy to play a part here in Indiana. I videoed Aiden saying, "I am a catalyst for hope" and Aiden yelled that to everyone we passed so they knew why we were running in our matching Catalyst Culture Camp shirts!

After a short (and early) nap we headed downtown for the long awaited and highly anticipated Max and Ruby Live on Stage! Aiden was pumped, especially when he saw the light up wands. Of course I bought one. What can I say??

The show was cute and just the right length. Aiden is still talking about it.

We left the show and immediately headed north for a birthday party at Gymb0ree. I wasn't sure how Aiden would do but he had a blast. The parents had finger sandwiches, cheese and fruit out for people to eat throughout the party so when he showed the smallest sign of getting ready to melt I took him into eat and he rallied for the rest of the party. It's always fun to be at parties with our gymb0 friends (for mommy too)! We got home a little before 9 and Aiden was in bed about 45 minutes later. And he slept in the next day which is even better!

On Friday we were lucky enough to be invited to an open house at our metropolitan airport. We went with Aiden's best buddy Brody and his family. Aiden had the time of his life!

We got to watch several planes land and take off.

Brody's dad is a pilot and flies helicopters. The boys got to put on the head phones and talk to each other. They were cute and hilarious! Of course they always are together.

A Huey helicopter from the Viet Nam war. Aiden saw Viet Nam on the sign and said, "that helicopter is from Viet Nam just like me!"

This helicopter was getting ready to leave so they put wheels on it and gave the boys a little ride. Aiden was so sad when it was time to go. What a great way to end yet another long week at work!

I don't think I am going to have to buy any new pajamas for Aiden this winter. I bought 24 months and 2T last year and they will still fit. I was happy to see that this one piece sized 18-24 months was kind of difficult to get on. You know the tag on pajamas that say, "garment should fit snugly"? Yeah, I'm pretty sure this is the first time that's happened around here!

Aiden went on his first field trip on Thursday. I wasn't able to go but my parents did. I think they had a great time!

I have never been so happy to see Friday. It was a long, long week. In some ways, it was the most challenging weeks of my teaching career. Being a teacher for students with behaviors can be very rough sometimes.

{270} I quickly snapped this picture and didn't look at it until later. It kind of took my breath away. Because Aiden looks so grown up. All grown up with a side of drool, that is!

{271} Aiden always starts in bed but almost every night...okay, every.single.night he comes downstairs about 20 or 30 minutes after I put him to bed and asks, "can I sleepover?" or "can we have a sleepover together?" How can I resist?!?! On Wednesday night he went and laid on the floor and was asleep 5 minutes later. Let sleeping boys lie....

Well, I took a couple of pics with my cell phone during the week. I'll go back and add them...someday.

On Friday we went to Firemen and Ice Cream at Gymb0ree. Aiden loved hearing about and seeing all of the gear. He also loved hanging out with his buddies Alex, Brody, Yukimi (who he used to call Kiwi- cracked me up) and Niko. Meeting all of the firemen and seeing the tricks was pretty cool too.

On Saturday we headed a few hours north to attend a family reunion. They had a bounce house and my cousin's boys (who are 7 and 9) were there. Needless to say, I didn't see much of Aiden. He had a blast and loved having his two cousins dote on him.

It was a long but fun day. Aiden slept on the way up but was awake the whole drive home. We got home around 7:30 and he was asleep an hour later. He slept until 8:30 this morning!

{261/365} Safety Day

Our town had a safety day yesterday. There were 2 fire departments there, our police department, our tactical rescue team and trucks and lots of other fun things. There were safety vehicles everywhere and Aiden was in heaven. He even wore his fire shirt and fire boots!

Ready to ride in the ambulance (please note the "fireman" boots Aiden had to wear along with his hero in training shirt :))...

I would say this was a highlight of the day but everything was a highlight. Aiden LOVED the helicopter! He kept pushing buttons (making mama nervous) and asking the lady why it wasn't starting.

There was also a bounce house and lots of games including hockey. Aiden did pretty good for his first time holding a stick.

After safety day we had to head straight to my school for homecoming hall decorating (I am a senior class sponsor). Aiden had a blast hanging with the "big children". He thought we were decorating for a party. We brought cookies for the kids and Aiden went up to everyone and asked them to take a cookie. By the time hall decorating ended it was quarter to 4 and Aiden hadn't had a nap. Sadly we had to head to a viewing/calling for a special man in our lives. I ran home to change clothes and Aiden said he would wait on the steps for me. I don't even think it was two minutes later when I looked over and saw this. He stayed asleep while I changed his clothes and loaded him into the car. He slept the whole way to the church and finally rallied when we got to cousin Sarah's and Smiley's house. It was nice to see family we haven't seen in a while. A really long day- 11:45 until about 9:15 that night- but it was a good day. Lots of fun and Aiden was on his best behavior which seems to be touch and go these days!!

Aiden is really into writing letters right now. He's getting better about writing his name, granted it's often right to left. The silly cracks in the driveway really cramped his style. He wouldn't go past the crack!

He also is into "reading" words and books to me. As I posted on facebook today, Aiden was reading me a alphabet book before nap. "V is for volcano. This volcano is ready to erupt. See that (pointing to lava running down the side)? That is red hot sriracha. It tastes yummy but it's hot hot hot!" So he adds his own details...such a creative little guy!
We spent A LOT of time outside today. Several hours in the morning and then again after nap. Aiden mentioned wanting to go to the beach though, especially when I pulled out his Florida t-shirt!

{254} Grandparent's Day...not forgetting what happened on September 11th ten years ago but also celebrating two very special people in our lives.

{255} Playing in the sandbox after our power walk...to the froyo place about a mile away. Eh, at least I burned most of the calories off and it was a beautiful evening. The yogurt was yummy too!

Yesterday we headed to a Mid Autumn Moon Festival. We met Erica and Duc and Angel, Chole and Chloe's cousin Izzy for dinner first at a local Vietnamese restaurant. We then met Christian, Tracy, Noah, Zoe and Colin at the festival.

This picture cracks me up because Aiden snagged some mooncakes off the table and that's all he could think about during the group picture. The boy loves his mooncakes!

Aiden always loves the lion dance but it was really loud because we were sitting close to the drum. He still enjoyed watching it from my lap. Of course all the way home and this morning he keeps asking to see another lion dance.

Aiden and I went to get some drinks. While we were standing in line a little boy who was probably about 7 came up to Aiden and me. He commented on how cute Aiden was and then looked at me very seriously and said (as if trying to break it gently), "I think your son is more Vietnamese than you." I think he was relieved...and confused!

We tried to get a group shot...Aiden loves making all sorts of faces for pictures these days. Joy.

I think this is the only halfway decent face Aiden made!

The kids had lots of fun outside and made this big salad (or soup) out of sticks and leaves. Aiden showed his true colors. We have really been struggling the past 3 days. Lots of meltdowns and poor choices...so frustrating. I think we need to get his ears checked. Behavior seems to be the only indicator of his ears bothering him. If it's not that, I don't know what I am going to do....

We went to the pirate party at Gymb0ree tonight. Aiden loved wearing his hat and eye patch. It was a little chaotic but fun!

Aiden was thrilled because we did bubbles, parachute time and dancing. He loves his sports class but truly does miss this part of class!

He even got to be the rooster again! Other than the meltdown of epic proportion as we were leaving (he wanted a car in the mini store and was devastated about leaving without it), it was a great night!

Three years ago on September 3, I saw a picture of a beautiful baby boy who would eventually become my son. Sweet little Bao Quoc.

I remember that day like it was yesterday. In fact yesterday I talked to my friend/coworker who was with me on the big day. She dropped me back off at the high school about 5 minutes before I got the call. I remember everything we did that morning before the call with great detail. The fact that we were coming back from visiting a student at the jail....well, it kind of makes it hard to forget the events leading up to the call. It will make for a great story one day. Not many referral day stories start with, "I had just gotten back from the jail." Anyway....

I know Aiden doesn't understand why today is such a special anniversary although he understood more than I thought he would. I explained it to him today and our conversation went like this:

Me: Today is the day that I found out I was going to be a mommy. I got a phone call from Margie who had pictures of a baby from Vietnam.

Aiden: When I was a baby?

Me: Yep. I got pictures of you when you were a little tiny baby and Vietnam said I could be your mommy.

Aiden: Did you say yes to Vietnam? Did you want to be my mommy?

Me: *choking back a whole lot of tears* Of course I said yes! It was the happiest day of my life!

Aiden: Me too! And we are a family. I am your boy and you are my girl.

I think that pretty much sums up this special day. The day our little family became more than just a dream. The day I realized that I don't ever want another day to go by without seeing this precious little boy. I've said it almost every year but I still feel that life began when I saw his face....happy referral anniversary, Aiden Bao!

I looked over and caught a glimpse of Aiden watching tv. Squatting down, chin in hand...slowly waking up. He just looked so little with his paci, blanket, diaper (all of which he now only uses at night). We had a birthday party at the zoo today. On our way down, we stopped and got pho for breakfast. Aident said he wasn't going to eat...and downed his entire bowl. We ran a few errands and then went to the party. We ran into Gram and Papa who were downtown for another event. Aiden thought this was the best! Even though he finished pho about 2 hours prior, Aiden managed to eat a piece of pizza and a cupcake.

After a craft, we all headed to the giraffe feeding, something Aiden had never done before. Fun!

We got to hang out with Abby and her mom which was lots of fun. Aiden and Abby raced a cheetah. Aiden wasn't concerned about going super fast but he used some fancy footwork!

We saw lots of animals including the new baby elephant. So cute!

We also rode the train, the carousel and went the to the dolphin show. Aiden passed out before we even left the parking lot. A super fun party- thanks Brody!

This is becoming a bad habit- not taking pictures at least one day a week and only posting one day a week. Being a full time single working mom can be hard. Especially when it's the first full week of school with kids. I'm going for two posts this weekend... Anyway, a few pics of our week.

Sunday we headed to the pool for a few hours. Trying to take full advantage of the few pool days we have left until summer is officially over.

On Monday we made Hungry Girl's Gimme Gimme S'mores Sandwiches. Yummy!

Couldn't tell you what happened on Tuesday and I have no pictures to document it. On Wednesday Aiden took a nose dive off the couch and landed cheek first onto the coffee table. The coffee table has a tile like top with some rough grout and Aiden got a lovely coffee table burn.

Aiden spent the night at my parents' because I had open house at school on Thursday night. I took a picture of the bracelet Aiden made me at school. My first piece of jewelry from him. :)

We had a low key Friday night. We did go out for frozen yogurt. There was a pretty big football game going on- the two rival high schools were playing. We were able to see "our" team head over to the big game with a police escort. Three school buses and a police car- made Aiden's night!

Today was gorgeous! Not a cloud in the sky when we headed to the pool this morning. We spent almost 2 hours at the pool and then another hour at the playground. Aiden took a huge nap. Of course I couldn't wake him up and he slept way too long. Tonight's bed time could be interesting...and late. We have a big day tomorrow so I hope he sleeps!

Our weekend got off to a rough start with a 5:45 am wake up call from a certain 3 year old. By about 7:30, I put in a movie and went down to do my workout. Forty five minutes later I came back upstairs and he was sound asleep. I was so looking forward to an afternoon nap today (for myself). I knew that was out the window and I couldn't fall asleep after my workout. Oh well. After lunch, Aiden said he wanted to go to the train park and go eat at Sang and Ha's restaurant. Sounded like a plan to me! On our way there we saw a train. I was able to pull onto a street right next to the tracks. It was a good thing we saw that one because not a single train came by the park in the 2 hours we were there. I guess weekends are a little slower. We still had fun and Aiden gave me some great smiles.

Well, he gave me some great smiles until he was done. This is his "NO MORE PICTURES" scream. Got it little man!

The first pictures pretty much sums up the exhaustion level around here. The first week back to school is always tough.

So tough that I honestly didn't even pick up my camera for 3 days. Oops. Luckily Aiden's new teachers have a website and I was able to swipe some of those shots that didn't have other kiddos in them. It appears that Aiden's shoe fetish carries over to school. He had these white tap/mary jane shoes on in every single picture except the ones that were taken outside!

Aiden had his first day of school today. He was so excited to go that he willingly posed for pictures. I got lots of great ones but this next one is my favorite.

I called my mom when he got home from school. I asked Aiden how school was. With a very annoyed voice he told me, "mom, it's preschool." My bad. But he loved it. He later told me it was the best day of him life! He was split into a class without a few of his buddies but still knows a couple of his classmates. On Tuesdays and Thurdays he will stay after preschool (which is 9-11:30) until the 3 in the daily discovery program that he was in last year. He will be with more of his friends then. Hoping for a really good PRESCHOOL year!

And because I'm feeling sentimental tonight, here's a look back at his other first days of school.

This was our last weekend before school starts. We tried to fit in lots of fun! Friday we did a little horsin' around at Connor Prairie and then had lunch poolside.

Mommy also fit in a girls night out at a wine and canvas event and Aiden had a haircut.

On Sunday, we met Devon and family downtown. We hung out in the Artsgarden and went to the drum museum. We also had Aiden's meet the teacher night. He sobbed the whole way home because he wanted to stay! Guess he's ready for preschool!

{223/365} Fair

We enjoyed the state fair on Thursday. Lots of fun down on the farm and with all of the animals. We even got to see a calf being born. That was a first for me!

Of course the tractors and farm equipment were a big hit. So was the tram we took to the other side of the fairgrounds. We got a flat tire and Aiden had fun watching it get changed.

Aiden got to go on rides all by himself this year. He loved the little cars and motorcycles!

Last year we went down the big slide over and over. We just went down one time- from looking at these pictures you can tell once was enough for mommy. I don't remember it being so fast last year. Maybe being 30 pounds lighter speeds things up. I don't know, but we were air born at least twice on the way down!

I can't post these pictures without mentioning the tragedy that occurred last night at the fair. I had this post ready to go last night when I turned on the tv and watched everything unfold. I knew several people who were and I know that is a sight that they will not soon forget. It was horrifying to watch on tv last night. I am praying for all who were affected by this senseless and sad event, especially those that were injured and the families who lost loved ones.

{221.222/365} A Last...And A First

On Tuesday night we attended our last Level 6 class at Gymb0ree. As of today, Aiden is officially signed up for the drop off Sports class. I know we will sneak in a few more Level 6 classes with Miss Melissa this fall as make up classes. But really, it's the end of an era. And the beginning of a new one.

Aiden got his first medal after completing 4 weeks of volleyball. Tonight's class didn't go as well as the last 3 weeks have gone (they had unlimited classes all summer so we started trying sports a month ago). Aiden didn't take a nap and fell asleep on the way to class. He woke up to his buddy W. screaming because he didn't want to go into class (a first for him too as both boys started sports on the same night). That kind of set the stage for Aiden's melt down. I took him in and sat with him for a while. It was a no go. We left the room, used the potty and Aiden decided he wanted to be with Miss Melissa in play gym. However, after about 10 minutes he rallied and went into class for the last 15 minutes. Phew! He is so proud of his medal. Next week his BFF B. starts class and I know they will have a blast together. While it's sad to think about Aiden growing up so fast, it sure is fun to watch him learn new things!

We met Jackie and Parker at the splash park on Monday. Aiden kept calling Parker the new Parker because as Aiden says, "The new Parker is different from my Vietnam Parker." And he was a new friend so there you go! I first met Jackie in the blogging world through Kelly's blog. I made a comment on Kelly's blog about the Pacer's and Jackie headed over to my blog. The funniest thing is, that very same weekend, I spotted an adoptive family at a local parade. I got an email from Jackie, headed to her blog and discovered the beautiful adoptive family was Jackie, Jim and Parker! Small, small world.

Even crazier is that we literally live less than 10 minutes away from each other and our paths hadn't crossed again until Monday. I didn't get too many pictures. Okay, I got home and realized the pictures are weak. The moms were too busy chatting and the boys kind of did their own thing. Of course they finally started interacting more as we were getting ready to leave. Thanks for a fun play date!We'd love to meet again sometime, Jackie. Let's just not wait another year!

{217} Friday was another Prairie Tykes class. This one was all about wagons. It wasn't the best class we've attended- had to wait in the wagon at least 15 minutes for a driver to show up. But, as always, the company was great!

{219} Our first Saturday since January 2009 where we were no longer signed up for a Gymb0ree class. It felt very strange but we headed over to the pool for a bit. It was a pretty lazy Saturday.

{219} Aha! Finally caught the suspect who's been eating our flowers. As Aiden said, "the bunny is whodunit".

Aiden had his final 3 swimming lessons this week. On Monday, he swam about 2 feet under water to his instructor. I was so proud! It must have been ~~a wee bit~~ absolutely terrifying because he refused to do it on Wednesday. We went to the pool on Wednesday afternoon and practiced a bit. I really talked up jumping off of the step and swimming to Joe. I told him Joe would make sure he was safe. On Thursday, the time came for Aiden to jump in and swim to Joe. Joe waited. I waited. And Aiden waited. And waited and waited. Did I mention Joe and his brother and sisters who teach lessons have lots of patience? Lots! They were all so good with the kids. Anyway, Joe and Aiden had about a 5 minute stare down. He finally did it but refused to do it a second time without holding one of Joe's hands.

When we started lessons, I had no expectations for Aiden. I just wanted him to feel confident in the water and not be afraid. I never expected him to swim at all. He has come so far! Aiden can do head bobs, blow his bubbles and "dive" for toys on the bottom step. Aiden can hold onto the kickboard and kick unassisted the length of the pool. He came pretty darn close to floating on his back all by himself and definitely feels comfortable in the water. All that in only 10 lessons! Our swim club teaches lessons at my school throughout the winter and spring so I will definitely be signing Aiden up for more lessons.

And some cell phone pictures for my other two days of pictures! I've been kind of bad about picking up the camera on some days. Thank goodness for cell phone cameras!

Showing off that he can indeed "kick and reach" to swim in the baby pool. I suppose knowing the bottom is *right* there gives him a bit more confidence. I am pretty sure that by next summer I will have a swimmer on my hands!

We had a low key Saturday...our last Saturday Gymb0ree class, hung out at home and went to the pool in the evening. On Sunday, Aiden's school had a summer celebration. We had a picnic and then listened to Ruditoonz performed. Aiden danced like a crazy man. Most of my pictures were blurry because he was moving so fast.

I'd like you to meet my favorite clown.

It was Gymbo's birthday on Friday. ~~He...she...~~Gymbo was 3 again! Aiden LOVES Gymbo. I mean really, really loves Gymbo so he spent a lot of time with the "real" Gymbo! He was so excited to play "party games".

And there was dancing.

If you are familiar with the "Dance Gymbo, Dance" song there is part where everyone sleeps. When it's time to wake up, Aiden always pretends he is the rooster. He "cock a doodle doos" at the top of his lungs to wake everyone up. I have it on video but can't figure out how to upload it from my phone. Oh well, this picture shows it! Huh, it also shows my son holding himself- oh the joys of big boy underwear!

No party would be complete without cake!

I have to admit I shed a few tears at the party. Two of Aiden's best friends from Gymb0ree were at the party too. This was most likely the last time all 3 were in class together unless it is a make up class. They have been in class together on Saturday mornings since Level 2 (they all are finishing up Level 6 right now) when they were about 7 or 8 months old. They have always been good buddies and I have loved getting to know their parents and being able to call them friends. I know we will still see them at play gym and outside of Gymb0ree, but is won't be the same. :( After the party we all went out to dinner at a nearby pizza place. Lots of fun and the three 3year olds were so well behaved while we waited for our table and through dinner. They ran outside while we waited so they were super hungry. A very fun Friday night!
